Peter Coombs

Vice President, Business Development EMEA, Micro Drainage

Peter is a Chartered Water & Environmental Manager and has worked in the construction industry since 1974.

As Vice President, business development EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Asia) Peter’s role sees him ‘informing, educating and empowering consultants, developers and clients on how to maximise the benefits of using industry standard technology to comply with local standards regarding sustainable drainage design and flood risk mapping.’

Peter’s career in civil engineering began with Thamesdown Borough Council as a trainee, progressing through to the role of assistant resident engineer. During this period he studied, gaining an ONC, HNC and HNC supplementary certificates.

Upon completion of the Thamesdown Capital Works Programme Peter then moved to Pendle Borough Council as Resident Engineer to implement their Colne & Pendle Valley schemes for the period 1983-89.

As Peter’s career progressed, a desire grew for a wider variety of projects and experiences, which saw him look for roles that would take him overseas.

This period of Peter’s career gave him the opportunity to work in the Gulf on reconstruction projects after the Gulf War, where he spent five years working on an array of challenging projects, ‘building a multi-cultural team of specification engineers and support staff to deal with a wide variety of expatriates and cultures in the marketplace’.

Peter ‘returned to his drainage roots’ in January 2002 when he joined Micro Drainage.
